Medieval Underground Tour — Prague

I joined the Medieval Underground Tour in Prague on May 24, 2025 at 3:00 PM. I booked my ticket in advance via Booking.com for €24, and arrived at the meeting point early.

Starting Point

The tour started from the ground floor of the Old Town Hall, same building of the Prague Astronomical Clock. Even before going underground, the surroundings already felt historic.

The Guide

Our guide was Katerina. She has dark brown hair, a chubby figure, and a warm, friendly presence. She was informative and knowledgeable, and her calm way of explaining things made the entire tour feel relaxed and easy to follow.

Beneath the City

We walked down into hidden tunnels, former prisons, and ancient cellars beneath the Old Town. These underground spaces revealed a deep and fascinating layer of Prague’s history. Some of the cellars were once used for beer brewing, adding another everyday detail to life in medieval Prague. At that time, water was not clean enough for drinking, so people began brewing beer instead. The boiling process made it safer, and beer became an important part of everyday life in the medieval period. The experience felt mysterious, immersive, and unforgettable.

Ending Point

The tour ended at the Franz Kafka Memorial. Here, Katerina explained the life and legacy of Franz Kafka, one of Prague’s most famous writers. Standing there at the end of the tour made the history feel personal and reflective.

Final Impression

This tour showed me a hidden Prague—quiet, dark, and full of stories beneath the streets. A deeply fascinating experience, and one I’ll remember long after leaving the city.
