Austria: Alpine Beauty and Lake Hallstatt

2025 Travel Recap — Munich → Salzburg → Attnang-Puchheim → Hallstatt → Prague (One Day)

I woke up at 5:00 AM, packed my bag, and got ready to go. I started the journey by train from Munich to Salzburg. Arriving at Salzburg Hauptbahnhof shocked me—the station was gigantic. It was my first time there, and also my first time buying a ticket from a vending machine, which felt overwhelming that early in the morning.

On the train, a ticket officer came to check my ticket—and I realized I had made a mistake. I had accidentally bought a discount ticket with a BahnCard, even though I’m not a member. I thought I might be in trouble, but luckily the officer was kind and didn’t fine me. Pure luck.

From Salzburg, I continued to Attnang-Puchheim, then on to Hallstatt. The ferry across the lake made the arrival feel unreal. By Lake Hallstatt, I had a quick chance to enjoy a gelato ice cream while the weather was perfect—sunny, calm, and peaceful. A small moment, but one of the best of the day.

At one point, I was really surprised that I had left my backpack on a chair under a tree, surrounded by other tourists. When I came back, it was still there and nothing was missing. It made me feel relaxed and left a strong, positive impression of the atmosphere there. Later that same day, I started the long ride back and made it all the way to Prague.

An early start, a packed route, a small scare, and a sweet break by the lake—long, exhausting, and absolutely worth it.
